We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the talented athletes who have been selected to participate in the Basketball NSW Talented Athletes program. Particularly, we celebrate the inclusion of Felix Solomon, a year six student from St Patrick’s Parish School, who has earned a place in the NSWPSSA basketball team and will be competing in the nationals at the Gold Coast next month.
As per the commendation provided by his coach, Adam Menz from the Albury Cougars, Felix has exhibited exceptional prowess on the court, particularly in his defensive skills, body positioning, and agility. His ability to defend and rebound against larger opponents, as well as his speed, athleticism, and scoring capabilities, all contribute to his reputation as a significant threat in the game.
Felix’s dedication to the sport is evident in his active participation in Wodonga and representation of MacKillop in the state team. Coach Menz has applauded Felix’s commitment to continuous improvement, acknowledging his proactive approach in seeking and implementing feedback. Notably, Felix has devoted a considerable amount of time to enhancing his speed and vertical jumping, largely through self-guided online tutorials via YouTube.
Despite his young age of just 12, Felix looks up to Australia’s NBA player Josh Giddey and admires the game awareness and shooting skills of Golden State Warriors’ superstar, Steph Curry.
The Albury Cougars can rightfully take pride in the fact that nine of their players have secured spots in Basketball NSW’s Talented Athletes program, a significant accomplishment for a city the size of Albury. Coach Menz has underlined the fact that this success was achieved amidst fierce competition, with 857 athletes from across NSW vying for a place in the program.
Felix is joined in this prestigious opportunity by other exceptional players such as Lilly Hilton, Ethan Crisp, Ted Vesey, Blake Di Stefano, Masiey Player, Hugo Menz, Ryan Crook, and Tom Toepfer. Their achievements are a testament to their unwavering dedication and hard work in the sport.
It is evident that these young athletes have a promising future ahead of them in the world of basketball. We extend our best wishes to them as they continue to refine their skills and proudly represent their schools and community.
