Funeral Arrangements for Leeds Rhinos Legend, Rob Burrow, Confirmed

The Leeds Rhinos have officially announced that the funeral of the esteemed Rob Burrow CBE will take place on Sunday, July 7th, 2023. This particular date holds great significance for the team, who have commemorated July 7th as ‘Rob Burrow Day’ since 2021.

The private funeral will be conducted at the Pontefract Crematorium, with attendance strictly limited to invited guests only. However, in recognition of the public’s desire to show their respects, a funeral cortege will proceed from Castleford, passing through Pontefract, and concluding in Featherstone.

The cortege will traverse several important locations, including Burrow’s hometown of Castleford and his birthplace in Pontefract. Upon passing Pontefract Racecourse, it will continue towards Featherstone, pausing momentarily at the Featherstone Lions ARLFC’s ground on Wakefield Road.

The Leeds Rhinos have urged the public to be in position along the route from 1pm, while also requesting that individuals respectfully disperse as the procession approaches the crematorium, ensuring a peaceful arrival for the bereaved family. While the funeral service itself will not be livestreamed, an invitation-only civic reception honoring Burrow will be available for viewing.

In a formal announcement, the Rhinos have communicated the family’s wish for the public to refrain from sending floral tributes. Instead, those inclined to make a contribution are encouraged to support Rob’s family directly through a provided link, or to donate to the Leeds Hospitals Charity appeal, which aims to establish the Rob Burrow Centre for MND.
