Exciting changes are on the horizon for the boys’ basketball program at LC-M High School this autumn, as former assistant Nate Smith takes on the role of head coach. With the upcoming commencement of boys’ basketball scrimmages in Southeast Texas just 125 days away, Coach Smith is enthusiastic about bringing a new perspective and implementing fresh strategies for the team’s success.
Having previously served as an assistant at LC-M and as head coach at Vidor High School for six years, Coach Smith is well-versed in the basketball scene in Southeast Texas. His primary objective in this new role is to guide the team back to the playoffs, following a 10-21 season last year with a 3-9 record in district games. Coach Smith’s immediate focus is on winning the first game of the season and ensuring an enjoyable experience for the players, while also striving to enhance the team’s competitiveness.
One of the key changes Coach Smith intends to implement is a shift in the team’s style of play. He underscores the significance of a strong defensive game, strategic shot selection, and improved rebounding to give the team an advantage over their opponents. Additionally, Coach Smith is dedicated to nurturing talent within the program, beginning with the younger players and working to develop a sustained culture of success at LC-M.
A crucial aspect of Coach Smith’s approach involves reaching out to younger players through initiatives such as the little dribblers’ program and the junior high program, with the goal of fostering long-term growth and success for the team. By focusing on developing players from the ground up, Coach Smith hopes to establish a consistent pattern of excellence that surpasses short-term bursts of success.
As the countdown to the start of the season continues, the LC-M boys’ basketball team is preparing for an exciting era under Coach Smith’s guidance. With a fresh perspective and a revitalised approach, the team is poised to make significant strides and create a lasting impact on the basketball scene in Southeast Texas. The forthcoming season promises to be an exhilarating journey, filled with new opportunities and accomplishments under the leadership of Coach Nate Smith.
