Bradley Hutchison, a 39-year-old Calgary gym owner and taekwondo instructor known as Dan Chambers in certain online circles, has recently come under scrutiny after being apprehended by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) on charges related to child luring and child pornography.
According to Staff Sgt. Mark Auger of ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit, Hutchison was reportedly engaged in sexually explicit online conversations with a 13-year-old individual, alleged to have occurred between 2017 and 2018. Of additional concern is the fact that Hutchison was entrusted with instructing children and adolescents in the martial arts, including those with special needs.
A thorough investigation led to the execution of a search at Hutchison’s residence and place of business on June 25, resulting in the confiscation of numerous electronic devices. He is currently facing grave charges, including child luring and the creation, viewing, and possession of child pornography, with the potential for further charges as the investigation unfolds.
The disconcerting aspect of this case is the continued presence of Hutchison’s biography on the gym’s website, which underscores his direct involvement with children and adolescents, despite the troubling nature of the allegations. This underscores the imperative need for heightened vigilance in safeguarding minors from potential harm and exploitation, particularly within environments where they are intended to experience security and encouragement.
Individuals possessing information pertinent to the investigation are strongly encouraged to step forward and notify the Calgary Police Service or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
It remains essential to acknowledge that these are accusations, and the accused individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Nevertheless, the seriousness of the charges underscores the critical importance of maintaining mindfulness and vigilance in situations relating to the safety and wellness of young individuals.
