The Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Union Club in Cumbria has commenced the process of upgrading its facilities following a highly successful fundraising campaign earlier this year. The club had set an ambitious goal of raising £33,228 to replace the outdated floodlight system on its premises, and in April, they achieved this target, thanks to the overwhelming support of the local community.
The initial plan was to replace the failing lights around the main training area and the failing switch gear. However, with the additional support received from individuals and businesses, the club has expanded the scope of the project to include extra floodlights for the third team pitch, allowing for more training areas to be available for use. This move has been described as “absolutely amazing” by club organisers, as it will ensure a complete transformation of the club for its young playing members.
The primary aim of the fundraiser was to upgrade the club’s lighting system to more energy-efficient LED floodlights, which is expected to result in a 60% reduction in energy costs. This significant financial boost will go a long way in ensuring the club’s sustainability for future generations.
With over 300 registered players ranging from the ages of five to 50, and around 1,000 community members regularly engaging with the teams, the club plays an integral role in the local community. The overwhelming support received for the fundraising campaign has been greatly appreciated by everyone involved, and the impact of these upgrades will be felt not only by the club’s current members, but also by future generations of players.
The fundraising efforts were spearheaded by John Ladell and Gareth Gore, who also serve as coaches for the under-14 and under-15 sides respectively. The dedication and hard work put in by both individuals have been instrumental in the success of the campaign.
As the club continues to move forward with these improvements, it is clear that the support and enthusiasm of the community will be crucial in ensuring the ongoing success and growth of the Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Union Club.
