The Rugby Artistic Swimming Club was crowned champions of the national cup in an intense and thrilling final event, broadcasted live on Freeview channel 276. In a remarkable showdown, they narrowly defeated the City of Salford Synchronised Swimming Club by a mere one-point margin.
The tension peaked during the final event when the City of Salford initially held the lead. However, Rugby had two routines remaining, while Salford only had one, setting the stage for an intense competition.
Rugby’s teams delivered exceptional performances, securing scores of 85.1500 and 78.2500, placing them in the third and fourth positions, respectively. The City of Salford awaited eagerly, determined to seize the title.
As the last team to perform, the City of Salford needed to garner all nine points to draw level with Rugby and claim victory. With an incredible display, they outperformed both Rugby sides but could only manage third place, earning them seven points.
Ultimately, Rugby finished with 34 points, while Salford closely followed with 33 points, based on their combined total from each of their swims throughout the day.
Rachel Lee, the team manager, expressed her overwhelming joy, stating, “It has been an absolutely amazing event and a fantastic achievement for the club. The swimmers and coaches have worked so hard this season, and it is all down to the swimmers wanting to achieve. They were fully committed, and we couldn’t have asked for more.”
She also extended her gratitude to Hannah Secher, the head coach, acknowledging her hard work and dedication that played an integral role in their success. Annie Marie Barry, another team manager, added, “It is thrilling that we won the Combo Cup; it was down to the last point and we were all on the edge of our seats.”
