Former Man United Goalkeeper Joins Ownership Group of MLS Franchise

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Tim Howard has recently taken a step into the world of football ownership by joining the ownership group of the Houston Dynamo and the women’s team Houston Dash as a minority investor. This move is reminiscent of Tim’s ex-teammate David Beckham, who ventured into ownership with his own franchise, Inter Miami, in 2014.

The announcement of Tim Howard’s ownership involvement was made by majority owner and chairman Ted Segal, who highlighted Tim’s extensive experience in soccer, both as a player at the highest levels and subsequently as a sporting director and media analyst. It is anticipated that Tim’s expertise will be invaluable as the organization aims to build a competitive and successful team. Additionally, Segal emphasized Tim’s commitment to using his platform to positively impact communities in need, aligning with the values of the organization.

This foray into football ownership is not new for Tim, as he was previously part of the ownership group of Memphis 901 FC in the United Soccer League back in 2018. Remarkably, he also played for his own club, making six appearances in 2020. The team currently competes in the USL Championship, classified as a Division II league under the MLS.

Throughout his playing career, Tim made 121 appearances for the United States national team from 2002 to 2017. He was widely known for his outstanding performance against Belgium in the 2014 World Cup, where he made a record-breaking 15 saves, earning him the affectionate nickname ‘the Secretary of Defense’. Additionally, Tim is also remembered for his time at Everton, where he made 414 appearances over 10 years.

Expressing his enthusiasm for this new venture, Tim stated, “As someone who has dedicated my life to the sport of soccer, I am thrilled to join the Houston Dash and Dynamo ownership group. This opportunity allows me to further contribute to the growth of the game in the United States and connect with the passionate soccer fans who call Houston home.”

Tim Howard’s entry into the ownership group of Houston Dynamo and the Houston Dash marks an exciting development in the growing trend of former footballers taking on influential roles within the sport. His expertise and passion for the game are expected to make a positive impact on the development of soccer in the United States.
