HC Melbourne is delighted to announce the lineups for both the men’s and women’s squads for the imminent 2024 Hockey One season. After a rigorous selection process, a talented group of athletes has been chosen, with key players returning and the addition of exciting international talent.
The women’s squad will see the return of 15 players from the 2023 season, as well as the introduction of several new faces, including German National player, Charlotte Stapenhorst. Additionally, a group of promising young players will provide depth to the team. Notable returnees for the women’s squad include Sophie Taylor, Hannah Cotter, and Kary Chau.
Among the returning players, Sophie Taylor’s experience playing for the Royal Herakles Hockey Club in the ION Hockey League in Belgium will be a valuable asset to HCM’s backline. Dynamic forward Hannah Cotter, after representing the NZ Black Sticks and finishing as the league’s second highest goal scorer in the 2022 Hockey One season, will also be rejoining the squad. The addition of Charlotte Stapenhorst will further strengthen the team’s forward line.
The men’s squad has also secured a major international signing in the form of Indian National player Shilanand Lakra. This addition adds depth to an already talented lineup, with a focus on developing rising stars, including U21 players Nye Roberts, Cooper Burns, and Liam Henderson. Joining the team is Great Britain National player, Peter Scott, who previously played for the Adelaide Fire in 2023.
Both squads will commence their training in early August in preparation for the start of the Hockey One season in early October.
HC Melbourne’s season opener is set for Friday, 11 October, where they will face off against the Adelaide Fire in Adelaide. Following a bye in Round 2, HC Melbourne will return home on Saturday, 26 October to take on the Perth Thundersticks at the State Netball Hockey Centre in Parkville.
This year, HC Melbourne has three exciting home games:
– Round 3: Saturday, 26 October vs Perth Thundersticks
– Round 4: Friday, 1 November vs NSW Pride
– Round 7: Friday, 22 November vs Tasmania Tigers
