Erik ten Hag, the current manager of Manchester United, recently made a statement pointing out that only Pep Guardiola has won more trophies than him in England over the last two years. However, not everyone is impressed with his sentiment, particularly Jamie O’Hara, who questioned the validity of the claim.
During his tenure as manager, Ten Hag has managed to secure the League Cup and FA Cup for Manchester United. However, the team’s performance in other areas has been lackluster. They finished eighth in the Premier League last season, their worst ever campaign, and also made an early exit from the Champions League after finishing at the bottom of their group.
In a recent interview with The Times, Ten Hag expressed his confidence, stating, “Of course, I feel stronger after winning the FA Cup. This club didn’t win trophies before I came for six years. In two years, after Guardiola, we won the most trophies in English football. So we are in a strong position. Look, we can beat every opponent. Not one time, more than one time against City and also against Liverpool.”
However, former Tottenham and Wolves midfielder Jamie O’Hara disagrees with Ten Hag’s statement, acknowledging the trophies won by the manager, but contesting the claim that Manchester United has only been second to Manchester City since Ten Hag’s arrival. O’Hara commented on talkSPORT, saying, “I mean, we’ve got to start all this again with Man United? He’s done alright. He’s won some trophies. They’re Man United. They’ve spent about £800million. So they’re entitled to win some! Is he having a laugh? They finished eighth didn’t they last season? It was the worst season they’ve ever had in Premier League history.”
