The members of Pat Kelsey’s inaugural Louisville men’s basketball team are currently endeavoring to perfect the “C-A-R-D-S” chant. Senior guard Reyne Smith expressed, “I’m going to go home and practice,” during The Ville’s second-round game of The Basketball Tournament at Freedom Hall.
Despite this, the team is already experiencing the city’s fervor for basketball. Senior Kobe Rodgers, one of three players who accompanied Kelsey from Charleston, remarked, “We’re loving this. This is crazy.”
Following their 71-69 victory over Sideline Cancer, The Ville is just four wins away from TBT’s $1 million grand prize. Head coach Kelsey had the opportunity to meet five-time NBA All-Star Donovan Mitchell and U of L legend Darrell Griffith. Montrezl Harrell’s game-winning free throws sealed The Ville’s thrilling victory.
The Ville will have another opportunity to vie for their regional victory, facing off at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Freedom Hall against either No. 5 Team Fredette or No. 8 Team DRC.
This article will be updated with the latest developments as the story progresses.
