The Northern Cyclones sought redemption in their weekend match against the Twin City Thunder, following a heart-stopping overtime clash on Friday. On Saturday, Logan Abric delivered an exceptional performance, achieving a shutout by thwarting 44 shots and leading the Cyclones to a triumphant 2-0 victory over the Thunder. The game took place at the Cyclones Arena in Hudson, New Hampshire, in the USPHL NCDC New England Division.
As per Thunder coach Dan Hodge, the Cyclones dominated the play and generated numerous scoring opportunities. However, Abric’s exceptional goaltending prowess proved to be a significant factor in the outcome of the game. Hodge commented on his team’s missed opportunities and credited Abric for his outstanding saves.
In an impressive display of skill, both of the Cyclones’ goals were scored on the power play, successfully converting 2 out of 4 opportunities. Conversely, the Thunder did not have any power play chances throughout the game. Hodge expressed disappointment in his team’s undisciplined penalties, which ultimately proved to be costly.
The first goal of the game came during the scoreless first period, with Charlie Zetterqvist finding the back of the net, marking his sixth goal of the season. Then, Ian Duffy, a recent addition to the Cyclones’ roster, capitalized at the beginning of the third period, securing his fourth goal of the season and providing the team with an insurance goal. Michael Markowski contributed with two assists, while Keenan Schneider and Charlie Ross each recorded a helper.
Despite the defeat, Thunder goalie Stefan Carney delivered an outstanding performance by making 40 saves throughout the matchup. Hodge commended Carney’s exceptional play and expressed expectations for his team to translate the success they have in practice, where they face top-tier goalies, into game scenarios.
Looking ahead, the Thunder are scheduled to play at the Norway Savings Bank Arena next Friday and Saturday, hosting the Junior Bruins at 7:30 p.m. each night. This upcoming fixture presents an opportunity for the team to rebound from the recent loss and showcase their capabilities against a new opponent.
