Nils Forselius demonstrated outstanding skill once again as he captained the Maine Nordiques to an impressive 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Titans. The forward scored a goal and provided two assists, showcasing his talent and making a significant contribution to his team’s success in the NAHL junior hockey game at The Colisee in Lewiston.
This win follows another triumph for Maine over New Jersey, with Forselius scoring two goals and an assist in their 6-2 win on Friday. Coach Nick Skerlick praised Forselius for his exceptional performance and predicted that he will undoubtedly be named player of the week.
The Nordiques currently hold a record of 18-6-3 with 39 points, keeping pace with the leading Maryland Black Bears, who are at 18-6-4 with 40 points in the East Division.
Forselius quickly opened the scoring early in the first period, giving the Nordiques an early 1-0 lead. The game saw the teams exchanging goals, with Leo Schwartz scoring for New Jersey and Laurent Trepanier finding the back of the net for Maine, resulting in a 2-1 lead for the Nordiques.
Tomek Haula made his mark by scoring his first goal since joining the Nordiques, further extending their lead to 3-1 early in the second period. Although Simon Becar managed to reduce the Titans’ deficit to 3-2 later in the middle frame, Kellen Murphy secured the game for the Nordiques with an empty-net goal late in the third period.
Charles Tardif also added to the final score with a 5-on-5 goal, courtesy of Liam Gilmartin. Coach Skerlick commended the exceptional performance of Tardif and Gilmartin, highlighting that they played through injuries and still made significant contributions to the team’s success.
Goalkeeper Adam Moller stood out with 28 saves, playing an instrumental role in securing the victory for the Nordiques. As the team concludes their eight-game home stand with a record of 5-2-1, Coach Skerlick expressed satisfaction with their performance on home turf.
Looking forward, the Maine Nordiques are set to face the Rochester Jr. Americans on the road next weekend, hoping to carry forward the momentum from their recent victories.
