In recent developments, Bates College’s Anna Cote has been honoured with a placement on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s Division III All-American second team. Cote, a highly skilled field hockey player from Auburn and a graduate of St. Dom’s, exhibited her prowess by netting 12 goals and contributing three assists for the Bobcats during her junior season this year. Furthermore, Cote was distinguished as a First Team All-Region selection by the NFHCA and a First Team All-NESCAC selection, cementing her exceptional performance on the field.
Notably, Cote’s older sister Paige, currently in her senior season, had previously been recognised as an NFHCA third team All-American. These exceptional siblings have etched their names in history as the fifth and sixth All-Americans in the program’s history, a testament to their unwavering dedication and talent in the sport.
In further sports-related accomplishments, Marc Begin of Bates College was also lauded for his outstanding performance in men’s basketball. Begin earned the Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches and Writers Association’s Maine Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week accolades as a result of his remarkable contribution in the Bobcats’ 99-92 victory over Colby. With an impressive 38 points, along with five rebounds, four assists, and two steals during the game, Begin’s performance was truly commendable.
Similarly, in women’s basketball, Jessica Dow of the University of Maine at Farmington was bestowed with co-rookie of the week honours from the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Dow exhibited her talent by delivering a 15-point effort, securing 13 rebounds, dishing out nine assists, recording three steals, and two blocks in the Beavers’ 90-59 win over Lesley University. Her exceptional performance also earned her the North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Week honours for the second time this season, underscoring her consistent contribution to her team’s success. Hailing from Saco, Dow’s average of 13.1 points, along with 6.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, has made her a valuable asset to her team.
Moreover, in women’s indoor track, University of Southern Maine teammates Kiana Goldberg and Olivia Jalbert were honoured for their exceptional achievements. Goldberg, a graduate of Lisbon, was named the LEC Track Rookie of the Week after emerging victorious in the 55-meter hurdles at Saturday’s USM Alumni Open. Meanwhile, Jalbert, a senior from Auburn and an alumna of Edward Little, received the title of the conference’s Field Athlete of the Week for her impressive high jump and long jump performances at the same event.
