Hertfordshire Police are actively seeking the former millionaire owner of Billericay Town Football Club, Glenn Tamplin. The 57-year-old has failed to comply with a community order from last year and did not appear in court when summoned earlier this year. Furthermore, a second warrant has been issued for his arrest regarding alleged possession of cocaine in May 2023.
According to a statement released by the police, “A warrant was issued by St Albans Magistrates’ Court on 12 July 2023 for failing to comply with the requirements of a community order between 19 October, 2022, and 4 November, 2022. A warrant was also issued by St Albans Magistrates’ Court on 3 October 2023 for possession of a controlled Class A drug on 9 May, 2023.”
Tamplin gained attention when he assumed ownership of Billericay Town in December 2016 and immediately began investing heavily in the non-league club. His high-profile signings of former Premier League players such as Paul Konchesky, Jamie O’Hara, and Jermaine Pennant were intended to elevate the club to new heights.
During his tenure, Tamplin even took on the responsibilities of a manager on two occasions. However, he relinquished his ownership and directorship in September 2019 and put the club up for sale. Shortly after, he assumed control of another non-league club, Romford. In a whirlwind 16 months, he acquired numerous players and once again appointed himself as manager, only to resign in March 2021 due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Tamplin’s own football career saw him playing for the youth teams of West Ham and Leyton Orient. Despite being released from both clubs, he went on to play semi-professionally for Barkingside and Barking.
Following his playing days, Tamplin reportedly achieved significant success in the steel industry, turning a £50,000 loan into a staggering £40 million fortune. In 2017, he was listed as the second most influential person on the Essex Power 100 roster.
It appears that the former tycoon has delved into other business ventures, as evidenced by his involvement in establishing various partnerships and communities for sports enthusiasts across different platforms.
