DA Capital Steps Away from Nuneaton Borough Ownership

Nuneaton Borough Seeks New Investors as DA Capital Relinquishes Ownership

Nuneaton Borough, a non-league club, subsequently requires additional investors following DA Capital’s announcement of its intention to “relinquish ownership” of the club. This decision, made by DA Capital director David Anderson, who assumed control of the Southern League Premier Central club alongside Nick Thompson and Robert Tidmarsh, has prompted the need for new ownership to secure the club’s future. The impending change in ownership, however, will not affect the scheduled home game against Telford United at Barwell.

Nuneaton Borough has encountered numerous challenges, including rent arrears and a recent eviction notice. The club has been compelled to play home games at alternative venues following the issuance of an eviction notice by Arden Tigress in October. The uncertainty regarding the club’s ownership stems from Arden Tigress’ ownership of the club’s stadium, Liberty Way, since 2019.

Despite these challenges, optimism remains among the majority shareholders, Mark Grimes and Ian Cook, as they aim to attract prospective buyers. Deliberations are anticipated in the proceeding week to address the club’s ownership predicament.

This is not the first instance in which Nuneaton Borough has confronted financial hardship, as the club previously encountered financial difficulties in 2019, leading to an appeal to save the club from substantial debts owed to HMRC.

The circumstances at Nuneaton Borough underscore the financial difficulties commonly encountered by non-league clubs. As the quest for new investors commences, the aspiration is to secure ownership that will fortify the club’s future. The unfolding of the ownership transition and its implications for the future of Nuneaton Borough remains to be seen.
