Local High School Basketball Teams Shine in Keystone Classic and Jim Fenerty Make-A-Wish Tournament

The local high school basketball scene was abuzz with excitement as the girls’ basketball teams of Lansdale Catholic and Gwynedd Mercy secured impressive victories in the Keystone Classic. Lansdale Catholic emerged victorious over Hun School with a final score of 54-28, with Nadia Yemola leading the team with 15 points, followed by Olivia Boccella with 10 points. Meanwhile, Gwynedd Mercy triumphed over Allentown Central Catholic with a final score of 35-31, courtesy of Bailey Balkir’s outstanding performance, contributing 24 points.

Additionally, several other teams demonstrated their skill and talent in gripping matches. Archbishop Wood’s Ava Renninger scored 18 points to earn the game MVP as her team rallied to a 45-41 victory over Mainland (Fla.) in the Kreul Classic. In a non-league match, Central Bucks East’s Anna Barry and Jess Lockwood both scored 11 points, propelling their team to a 47-38 win over West Chester Rustin. Germantown Academy also secured a thrilling 78-72 comeback win over Perkiomen School, with Bryce Rollerson’s 27-point contribution leading the team to victory at the Jim Fenerty Make-A-Wish Tournament.

In the boys’ basketball division, Phoenixville emerged victorious against Dock Mennonite, ending the latter’s four-game winning streak with a final score of 68-59. Vaughn Martin led Dock Mennonite with 17 points, but it was not enough to secure a win against Phoenixville. Executive Education also secured a tightly contested 74-72 win over Methacton, while Pope John Paul II outclassed Upper Darby with a 66-46 win in a non-league match.
