The previous weekend proved to be a tumultuous one for the local hockey teams in Wellington County. The performances of each team on the ice will now be examined.
Elora Rocks
The Elora Rocks encountered difficulties on Friday, suffering a 5-4 defeat to the Dunville Aeros at their home arena. Presently, the team holds the eighth position out of 10 teams in the standings of the Western Ontario Super Hockey League. Looking ahead, the Rocks have two upcoming matches: one at home against the Strathroy Jets on Friday, and another in Alvinston against the Killer Bees on Saturday.
Fergus Whalers
The Fergus Whalers faced defeat twice over the weekend. Initially, they succumbed to a 4-1 loss in an away game against the Wingham Ironmen, and subsequently suffered a 3-2 loss at home against the Mount Forest Patriots. The Whalers currently rank sixth out of eight teams in the standings of the PJHL’s North Pollock division. Next, the team will take to the ice on Wednesday in Walkerton against the Capitals, followed by a road game on Saturday against the Mitchell Hawks.
Mount Forest Patriots
The Mount Forest Patriots had a successful weekend, securing victories against both the Fergus Whalers and the Mitchell Hawks with scores of 3-2 and 6-2, respectively. In the standings of the North Pollock division, the Patriots hold the second position out of eight teams. Looking forward, the team is scheduled to play two more games this year – first in Hanover against the Barons on Friday, followed by a home game on Saturday against the Goderich Flyers.
Erin Outlaws
The Erin Outlaws faced a challenging Sunday, suffering a 6-4 defeat at home against the Creemore Coyotes. Currently, the team is positioned in tenth place out of 11 teams in the standings of the Ontario Elite Hockey League. The Outlaws’ last game of the year is set to take place on Dec. 30 at home against the Georgian Bay Applekings.
Minto 81’s
Minto endured a 5-3 defeat against the Tavistock Royals in an away game on Saturday. Despite this setback, the team holds the third position out of 11 teams in the standings of the Ontario Elite Hockey League. The 81’s will be returning to the ice on Dec. 30 for a match against the Milverton Four Wheel Drives in Perth East.
