Remembering Queensland Rugby Legends Stephen Tait and David Logan

The Queensland Rugby community is mourning the tragic loss of two of its former stars, Stephen Tait and David Logan, who tragically lost their lives in a boating accident in Moreton Bay. The incident took place during a severe storm while they were on their annual Boxing Day fishing trip, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and the rescue of eight others.

David Logan, aged 69, was a highly esteemed member of the Brothers rugby club, where he earned nine caps for Queensland between 1974-76 as Queensland representative #884. Known for his ankle-high tackling and turn of pace, Logan made his mark during the golden era of the club, winning multiple premierships between 1974-82. Former teammates and club-mates fondly remembered him as a player who brought both determination and a sense of fun to the field.

Stephen Tait, aged 59, also made a significant impact on the rugby community. Despite facing competition from established Wallabies players, Tait’s exceptional skills led to him becoming Queensland representative #986. His notable contributions as a livewire halfback were crucial in securing Souths’ 1986 premiership victory, and his influence extended beyond the field through his long teaching career at Iona College.

Former teammates and colleagues shared heartfelt memories of Tait and Logan, recalling their laid-back demeanour, sense of humour, and dedication to the sport. They emphasized the positive impact both individuals had on their respective teams and on the lives of those around them. The sudden loss of these two rugby icons has left a profound void within the Queensland Rugby community.

As the rugby community comes together to mourn the loss of these two beloved figures, funeral details are yet to be announced, but it is clear that the memory of Stephen Tait and David Logan will continue to live on through the cherished moments and enduring legacy they have left behind.
