Madison Boys Basketball Triumphs Over Old Orchard Beach to Remain Undefeated

The Madison boys’ basketball team emerged triumphant against Old Orchard Beach in the recent Capital City Hoop Classic, securing a 49-42 victory and maintaining an undefeated status this season. Despite encountering a challenging second half, the Bulldogs managed to stay ahead through crucial plays and impressive teamwork.

Head coach Jason Furbush acknowledged the team’s struggles in handling the ball during the second half, while commending their ability to make clutch free throws and secure crucial rebounds when it mattered most. These key fundamentals ultimately made the difference in their win over Old Orchard Beach.

Nathan Cornforth and Brode Strout led the charge for Madison, with Cornforth contributing 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Strout put up an impressive 13 points, including four three-pointers in the first quarter. Madison’s dominance on the boards was evident as they outrebounded Old Orchard Beach 42-20. Despite the Seagulls’ efforts, Madison’s resilience and strong offensive play allowed them to claim victory.

The Bulldogs’ strong start in the first quarter, led by Strout’s exceptional performance, set the tone for the game. With a series of successful three-pointers, Madison built a solid lead early on, and their momentum continued into the second quarter. By capitalizing on scoring opportunities and asserting their presence on the boards, the Bulldogs maintained a comfortable lead at halftime.

However, Old Orchard Beach staged a noteworthy comeback in the second half, forcing Madison into a series of turnovers and narrowing the gap to just two points. Furbush acknowledged the challenges they faced, emphasizing that their team is not accustomed to the fast pace of play brought on by their opponents. Despite this setback, the Bulldogs managed to regain control by slowing down the pace of the game and refocusing their efforts on both ends of the court.

In addition to their impressive offensive display, Madison also demonstrated resilience on the defensive end. With Cornforth and Linkletter leading the charge, the Bulldogs’ defensive efforts limited OOB’s scoring opportunities and ultimately secured the win. Their ability to adapt to the game’s changing dynamics and overcome the challenges posed by their opponents reflects the team’s commitment to growth and improvement.

As the Bulldogs continue their undefeated streak, they recognize the need to further solidify their offensive strategy and work together cohesively. With the loss of a key scorer from the previous season, the team is in the process of finding their roles and establishing their offensive identity. Despite the challenges, the team remains optimistic and determined to build on their current success as they navigate the rest of the season.

Madison’s victory over Old Orchard Beach serves as a testament to their perseverance and unwavering spirit as they strive for excellence on the court. As they continue to evolve and refine their gameplay, the Bulldogs remain focused on their ultimate goal of achieving success as a cohesive and formidable team in the competitive world of high school basketball. Their impressive performance in the Capital City Hoops Classic underscores their potential and sets the stage for a promising season ahead.
