Pochettino’s Delight at Team’s Performance and Result

Mauricio Pochettino has expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance in the recent game against Luton, describing it as a true reflection of the intensity of the Premier League. He was thrilled to witness his players embrace the challenge and secure a hard-earned victory at Kenilworth Road.

The team displayed a remarkable level of skill, scoring three exceptional goals that demonstrated a precision that had been lacking in previous away games. Despite facing 36 crosses from Luton, the team effectively handled the pressure for the majority of the game. However, two late goals from the opposition tested their resilience, but they ultimately emerged victorious, marking it as their second consecutive win. Pochettino reflected on the game, expressing his emotions post-match.

“It was a very difficult game, but I am so pleased,” he remarked. “That is the Premier League. Luton are a team that fight until the end, you could see that from their games against Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, and Newcastle. It is so difficult to break them down. But the team was very good. I’m very pleased with the performance. We controlled the game until the 65th minute. We needed to win and we deserved the result. Of course we suffered a little bit in the last few minutes when we conceded two goals, but overall it’s a good result to build our confidence for the new year.”

The team’s victory was enriched by Cole Palmer, who netted his seventh and eighth goals of the season. Pochettino acknowledged the significance of Palmer’s role in the team, commending his impactful contributions. “It’s obvious he’s an important and decisive player. Scoring goals like this, I am so pleased for him and for the team,” Pochettino affirmed. Noni Madueke also found the back of the net after being awarded a starting position, adding to the team’s success.

Pochettino also recognised the collective effort of the team, highlighting the emergence of multiple strong performances. “There were many good performances. Players are stepping up. We are happy. It’s only a matter of time, it’s not a piece of magic where you can touch it and start to build a team. We have a group of players who all need to feel confident and feel they can fight for their place in the starting XI. When you have a big squad, if we are all fit we have players who can perform and play. It’s very positive to increase this level in every position.”

The positive outcome of the game allowed Pochettino and the team to conclude the year on a high note. “It is really important to finish 2023 well and look forward to 2024. It was good to finish with good feelings and going into the new year keeping the momentum,” Pochettino remarked, looking ahead with optimism.

In conclusion, Pochettino’s satisfaction with the team’s performance and result against Luton serves as a testament to the team’s determination and potential for continued success in the future.
