IUP Women’s Basketball Takes on Daemen in Exciting Showdown

The IUP women’s basketball team is preparing for a matchup against Daemen as they conclude the nonconference portion of their schedule. The game is scheduled for Saturday, January 6 at 1:00 p.m. at the KCAC in Indiana, Pennsylvania.

In their last four games, the Crimson Hawks have been victorious, boasting a flawless 5-0 record at home this season. Their recent game against Shepherd showcased the talents of four players who finished in double figures, contributing to the team’s ranking of third in both scoring offense (73.5) and scoring defense (56.1). Standout players such as Rahman Henderson and Nyshae’ Weaver have displayed impressive stats.

Daemen, however, is coming off a notable win against fifth-ranked Ferris State and currently holds an 8-3 record for the season. Alahna Paige has been a standout performer, achieving multiple 20+ point games. The Wildcats are recognized for their strong defense, leading the ECC and ranking 37th nationally in scoring defense with 58.2 points allowed per game.

Players to keep an eye on include IUP forwards Centrulla, Preston, and Weaver, with Centrulla nearing a career milestone of 1,000 points and Preston consistently posing a double-double threat. In the backcourt, Kiera Baughman’s consistent performance and previous All-PSAC West First Team honor make her a player of note. Newcomer Rahman Henderson has also proven to be a valuable asset to the team.

Head coach Craig Carey has played a pivotal role in leading the team to victory, aided by the expertise of experienced assistant coaches such as Courtney Alexander.

The IUP team and their fans are filled with anticipation and excitement as they gear up to face Daemen. The team’s success thus far has been truly inspiring, and they are determined to continue their winning streak.
