The Women’s Ice Hockey Team at Lindenwood University Scores Big in the Weekend Tournament

The women’s ACHA ice hockey team at Lindenwood University had an eventful and successful weekend, securing a solid 7-0 win against Michigan State and achieving two commendable ties against the University of Massachusetts and Arizona State.

During their game against Arizona State, the Lions executed an exceptional comeback from a 3-1 deficit to take a 5-4 lead in the third period. However, ASU managed to force overtime, resulting in a 5-5 tie, with no goals scored during the additional minutes.

The role of special teams was pivotal in the weekend’s games, with seven of the ten goals scored arising from power plays. The Lions demonstrated dominance in shots against Arizona State with a score of 47-42. Goalkeeper Jordan Tung from Lindenwood made an impressive 37 saves out of the 42 shots she faced, contributing significantly to the team’s success.

In their contest against the Spartans, the Lions secured an emphatic 7-0 win, with goaltender Evi Allerding delivering an outstanding performance by making 48 saves on 48 shots. Six different players from Lindenwood displayed their capability by scoring, illustrating the depth and versatility of the team.

The Lions’ first game of the weekend witnessed them falling behind 3-0 against the Minutemen, but they displayed an admirable comeback with three goals in the third period, ultimately leading to a 3-3 tie.

The team’s performance over the weekend has led them to a season record of 4-8-3. They are set to resume Women’s Midwest College Hockey action on January 19-20 and will compete against Maryville. With a 1-5 mark in conference play, the team is focused on enhancing their standing as they strive for further success in the season.

The games taking place at the Maryville Ice Center in the Chesterfield Valley will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday and at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Fans are eagerly looking forward to witnessing the team’s continued winning streak and further successes.
