Dominant Victory for Indian Women’s Hockey Team in FIH Hockey5s World Cup 2024 Semi-Final

The Indian women’s hockey team delivered an outstanding performance, achieving a remarkable 6-3 victory over South Africa in the semi-final of the FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup 2024. This thrilling match unfolded on Friday night in Muscat.

India’s goals were scored by Akshata Abaso Dhekale (7’), Mariana Kujur (11’), Mumtaz Khan (21’), Rutuja Dadaso Pisal (23’), Jyoti Chhatri (25’), and Ajima Kujur (26’). Conversely, Teshawn De La Rey (5’), Captain Toni Marks (8’), and Dirkie Chamberlain (29’) found the back of the net for South Africa.

The game commenced with South Africa exhibiting a robust defensive approach, seeking to capitalize on opportunities to score against the Indian team. The first opportunity of the game arose for South Africa, yet Indian goalkeeper Rajani Etimarpu displayed vigilance in safeguarding the goal.

Despite India’s initial struggles to create scoring opportunities, Akshata Abaso Dhekale successfully equalized the game with a powerful goal. This was followed by a goal from South Africa’s Captain Toni Marks, once again putting them in the lead. Nevertheless, Mariana Kujur promptly responded with a goal of her own, levelling the score to 2-2.

In the second half, South Africa emerged strongly, exerting pressure on the Indian defence. However, Rutuja Dadaso Pisal and Mumtaz Khan managed to secure goals, propelling India into the lead. Notably, Rutuja exhibited her skill with another goal, further extending India’s lead.

Despite South Africa’s push for a goal, Jyoti Chhatri seized the opportunity to score, expanding India’s lead. As the game approached its conclusion, Ajima Kujur confidently sealed India’s victory with a goal from near the half line. South Africa’s Dirkie Chamberlain secured a late goal, but it was insufficient to alter the final outcome.

Following this remarkable triumph, India is poised to confront the Netherlands in the Final, scheduled for January 28 at 2150 hrs. This highly-anticipated match is certain to be an exciting culmination of the FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup 2024.
