USC Women’s Basketball Secures Impressive Victory Over Washington State at Home

The USC women’s basketball team secured a crucial win at home against Washington State, following a rough patch of back-to-back losses against Utah and Colorado. The No. 11 ranked Trojans demonstrated their resilience and skill with a wire-to-wire 70-62 victory over the Cougars at Galen Center.

Head coach Lindsay Gottlieb expressed satisfaction with her team’s performance, particularly for establishing an early lead that set the tone for the game. Freshman guard JuJu Watkins stood out in the first half, showcasing remarkable efficiency and contributing to the Trojans’ commanding performance. Graduate guard McKenzie Forbes also made a significant impact, highlighting the team’s depth and talent.

While the first half demonstrated the Trojans’ offensive prowess and defensive strength, the second half displayed a different picture, as Washington State ramped up their game and caused disruptions. However, despite some struggles, USC managed to maintain their lead and emerge victorious, securing their 14th win of the season.

“I think it just kind of happened naturally. I think it has a lot to do with the trust coach has in me and my teammates finding me,” Forbes reflected on her performance, underscoring the team chemistry and unity that contributed to their success.

Gottlieb acknowledged the challenges posed by opposing defensive teams, emphasizing the need to continue finding ways to adapt to these strategies. With their eyes now set on the upcoming game against Washington, the Trojans are eager to build on their recent success and further solidify their position in the league.

The victory over Washington State serves as a testament to the Trojans’ resilience and determination, demonstrating their ability to bounce back after a series of tough games. With a continued focus on improvement and tactical execution, the team is poised to elevate their performance as they progress through the season.
