Exciting Action in Euro Hockey League KO16: Old Georgians Progress, Holcombe Fall Short

The Euro Hockey League KO16 2023-24 provided thrilling matches as Old Georgians advanced to the next round with impressive victories, while Holcombe faced disappointment. Let’s dive into the action!

The defending champions, Old Georgians, showcased their dominance in the England Hockey League Premier Division as they secured their place in the next round of the Euro Hockey League 2023-24. The KO16 took place in Barcelona, Spain from 06-08 October 2023.

Old Georgians kicked off the weekend with a spectacular 5-1 triumph over Mannheimer HC, a German club. The talented Sam Ward, a star player for England and GB, shone brightly with a brace (47′, 56′). Additionally, Alan Forsyth (8′), Lee Morton (16′), and James Carson (42′) each contributed a goal. Luis Holste (4′) managed to score the lone goal for the German club.

In their second match, Old Georgians faced a tough challenge against Waterloo Ducks HC, a Belgian side. The match ended with a close 3-2 victory for Old Georgians. Vitor Charlet opened the scoring for Waterloo Ducks in the 22nd minute, but Sam Ward swiftly equalized in the 26th minute. Charlet once again put Waterloo Ducks in the lead in the 37th minute, only for Forsyth to equalize for Old Georgians in the 40th minute. The match was decided by Chris Proctor’s winning goal in the 49th minute.

On the other hand, Holcombe began their campaign with a 4-2 victory over Racing Club de France. Nick Bandurak displayed his skills with a brace (7′, 51′), while Phil Roper (23′) and Tom Russell (36′) also found the back of the net. Christophe Peters-Deutz (14′, 49′) scored both goals for the French club.

However, Holcombe’s journey came to an end as they suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat against the hosts, Real Club de Polo. Guillermo Fortuño scored the only goal of the closely contested match in the first minute.

The weekend was filled with exhilarating matches, showcasing the talent and determination of the participating teams.
