The U11 Timberwolves Development Team from Williams Lake had a memorable weekend in Kelowna, where they secured the gold medal in an exhilarating tournament, partially due to a visit from NHL star Carey Price.
Assistant coach Tyler Fuller, who is a friend of Price, contacted the hockey superstar to ask if he could visit and inspire the young players before their final game. Price, known for his supportive nature, readily accepted the invitation.
When Price made an unexpected appearance in the team’s dressing room just before the championship game, the players were in awe of the esteemed hockey icon. Although some may not have immediately recognized him, his presence had a significant impact.
Price shared with the young athletes the special camaraderie and anticipation he experienced in the dressing room before big games, expressing that these were the moments he missed most about playing hockey. This heartfelt message resonated with the Timberwolves and provided an extra layer of motivation for the upcoming match.
Similar to Price’s visit, head coach Jared Kohlen had a memorable encounter with an NHL player during his formative years. Drawing from his own experience, Kohlen emphasized the significance of such moments, believing that the impact of Price’s visit will stay with these young players for years to come.
The Timberwolves faced an early deficit in the gold medal game but displayed unwavering determination and teamwork to turn the tide in their favour, ultimately securing an impressive 11-7 victory over West Kelowna. Kohlen praised the players for their outstanding effort and hailed them as deserving champions.

It is worth noting that Carey Price himself began his hockey journey in Williams Lake, making this heartwarming victory even more special for the young U11 team.
