Hapkido DIY Dominates Indonesia Martial Arts Games with 20 Medals

The Hapkido team from DIY (Yogyakarta Special Region) has made a remarkable achievement at the Indonesia Martial Arts Games (IMAG). They brought home a total of 20 medals, consisting of 7 gold, 7 silver, and 6 bronze medals. The competition took place at the Haji Bekasi Dormitory in West Java from October 21st to 23rd. The IMAG is a national championship organized by the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI). The DIY team competed against teams from 19 other provinces across Indonesia.

Luqman Ar-Rosyid, the Manager of the DIY Hapkido team, expressed his pride in the team’s performance. He stated that the team’s achievement of 20 medals was impressive considering it was their first time participating in the championship. The team consisted of 29 athletes who competed in 21 out of the 23 events held during the competition.

Luqman also mentioned that the IMAG served as a preparation for the upcoming Pekan Olahraga Nasional (PON) XXI in Aceh-Sumatra in 2024. Most of the athletes selected for the IMAG were part of the longlist for PON 2024 and were between the ages of 17 and 18. Luqman added that the participation of young athletes in the IMAG was also a way to groom and test potential athletes for PON 2028.

The DIY Hapkido team’s success at the IMAG was praised by Triyana and Paryono from the DIY branch of KONI. They expressed their appreciation for the team’s achievements and believed that the experience gained from the IMAG would further prepare the athletes for PON next year.

Overall, the IMAG was not only a platform for competition but also a valuable opportunity for the DIY Hapkido team to showcase their skills and potential. With their impressive performance, the team has set a strong foundation for future success in both PON 2024 and future editions of the games.
