A martial arts club in West Bridgford has teamed up with a local pub to raise an impressive £3,000 for MacMillan Cancer Support. Tetsudo Martial Arts Association, which operates across the East Midlands, joined forces with The Wolds pub on Loughborough Road to surpass their fundraising target. The pub had previously raised nearly £4,000 for the charity and is now on track to beat that amount in 2023. Over a period of five weeks, the Tetsudo West Bridgford club organized various events, including outdoor training sessions, BBQ nights, and the sale of Tetsudo DVDs and samosas. The fundraising efforts were celebrated with a presentation evening at The Wolds pub, where guest speakers expressed their gratitude. MacMillan Cancer Support provides vital support to individuals affected by cancer, offering practical, financial, and emotional assistance. Sean Stone, the general manager of The Wolds, expressed his appreciation for Tetsudo Martial Arts’ contribution and emphasized the importance of community involvement in supporting such a significant cause. Andy Patel, a 5th degree blackbelt at the West Bridgford club and the event organizer, highlighted the club’s commitment to personal development and helping others. In addition to the fundraising activities, members of The Wolds team recently completed The Scafell Pike hike and participated in a sponsored head shave, all in aid of MacMillan. The partnership between Greene King, the UK’s leading pub company and brewer, and MacMillan has raised an incredible £14 million over the past 10 years, with a record-breaking £3 million raised in 2022 alone. This remarkable achievement equates to funding a MacMillan nurse for an entire day with every £342 raised.
