Rochester Institute of Technology Women’s Basketball Team Faces Tough Loss to St. Lawrence

The women’s basketball team of the Rochester Institute of Technology experienced a challenging defeat to St. Lawrence, concluding with a final score of 64-62. Senior guard Emma Waite showcased an impressive performance by leading the Tigers with a total of 17 points. This game took place on Friday, and despite the sincere efforts of the RIT team, they narrowly missed securing the victory.

The game commenced with an exhilarating start, as sophomore guard Erin DiPaola secured an early layup, granting RIT an initial 2-0 lead. This was succeeded by a series of remarkable plays, including consecutive three-pointers from sophomore guard Ansley Orrell, propelling the Tigers ahead 13-6 with just under two minutes remaining in the first quarter. However, St. Lawrence concluded the quarter with a formidable 8-2 run, reducing RIT’s halftime lead to a mere eight points.

Despite the Tigers sustaining a substantial lead throughout the game, St. Lawrence gradually closed the gap as the game progressed. The score rested at 49-42 in favor of the Tigers after three quarters of play. However, St. Lawrence executed a decisive comeback in the final quarter, embarking on an 8-0 scoring run and ultimately seizing their first lead of the game.

In spite of the Tigers’ efforts to reclaim the lead, St. Lawrence successfully maintained their advantage and emerged triumphant with a concluding score of 64-62. The game proved to be a closely contested and hard-fought battle, yet St. Lawrence ultimately secured the win with a layup in the closing moments.

With regard to exceptional performances, DiPaola contributed 13 points, while Orrell added 11 points to the Tigers’ total score. RIT also demonstrated proficiency in the paint, amassing 28 points as compared to St. Lawrence’s 24, and McGuiggan showcased an impressive team-high of nine rebounds.

Looking ahead, the Tigers are scheduled to engage in a match against Clarkson in their forthcoming game, scheduled for tomorrow with tipoff at 2:00 p.m. Despite the challenging loss to St. Lawrence, the team is unequivocally focused on making a strong comeback and delivering a commendable performance in their upcoming match.
