Ithaca College Women’s Basketball Team Faces Tough Loss to Skidmore

The women’s basketball team of Ithaca College suffered a difficult loss against Skidmore, with a final score of 50-26 in favor of the Thoroughbreds. Throughout the game, the Bombers struggled to find their footing and were held to just nine points in the first half. The uphill battle continued in the second half, with the team shooting at a mere 14.5% from the field.

Despite making efforts to gain an advantage by collecting 13 offensive rebounds in the first half, Ithaca only managed to convert 3-of-31 field goals (9.7%). The Thoroughbreds maintained a strong defensive presence, making it challenging for the Bombers to gain any traction on the offensive end, ultimately leading to a 23-9 lead for Skidmore at halftime.

In the third quarter, Ithaca showed some promise as they cut into the deficit with well-executed plays, bringing the score to 32-17. However, Skidmore maintained their lead, with the quarter ending at 39-24 in their favor. The Bombers’ struggle continued in the fourth quarter, as they were unable to secure any field goals and finished with only two free throws over the final 10:37, resulting in the 50-26 final score.

On a more positive note, Ithaca held a 44-35 lead in rebounds, showcasing their determination on the court. However, despite their efforts, the team was unable to capitalize on the second chance opportunities.

Looking ahead, the Ithaca College women’s basketball team (15-4, 9-3 Liberty League) will aim to regroup and finish the weekend on a high note as they prepare to face RPI, with the game set for a 2 p.m. tip-off on Saturday.
