The men’s tennis team at Old Dominion University is gearing up for an action-packed “757 doubleheader” this Wednesday, with back-to-back matches against Norfolk State and William & Mary at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
Head Coach Dominik Mueller of ODU expressed admiration for Norfolk State, acknowledging that they may have their strongest team to date. He also anticipates a tough rivalry match against William & Mary, emphasizing the thrill of playing under the lights on Wednesday night.
In their previous encounter, ODU secured a decisive 7-0 victory against Norfolk State, winning the doubles point and clinching the majority of the singles matches. Looking ahead to their upcoming matches, the Monarchs are hopeful to maintain their winning streak against both opponents.
When facing William & Mary, the Monarchs have prevailed in the last three matches and emerged victorious in nine out of the last ten encounters. With a commendable track record against their opponents, ODU is eager to showcase their prowess once again.
As the team prepares for the upcoming doubleheader, they are in top form, boasting an impressive record of 30-5 in singles play. Notably, Yanis Moundir leads the team with a perfect 6-0 spring mark, followed closely by Connor van Schalkwyk at 5-0 and Aryan Saleh at 5-1. In doubles, Moundir and Maxime Mareschal-Hay have demonstrated exceptional synergy, leading the team with a flawless 6-0 record.
On the opposing end, Norfolk State suffered a 5-2 defeat to Temple in their season opener, while William & Mary experienced mixed results, securing a recent victory over James Madison following losses to Florida Atlantic and Delaware.
Following the upcoming doubleheader, ODU will embark on a challenging six-match road swing, commencing with a match against VCU in Richmond on February 16.
