Golfer’s Delight: Pebble Beach Replay Draws Triple the TV Viewers Compared to LIV Golf

The final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, a part of the PGA Tour, had to be postponed due to adverse weather conditions, resulting in an exclusive spotlight for LIV Golf without any competition from the NFL. Despite this advantage, the PGA Tour managed to attract three times more viewers during a rerun of the third round, as reported by Nielsen TV data.

The Mayakoba event hosted by LIV Golf, which culminated in Joaquin Niemann’s thrilling victory after a four-hole playoff against Sergio Garcia, achieved a remarkable milestone with 432,000 viewers on the CW Network, marking its highest viewership to date. Conversely, the rerun of the Pebble Beach event on CBS garnered a viewership of over 1.21 million, featuring Wyndham Clark’s record-breaking performance with a remarkable score of 60 in the third round.

Live coverage of the Pebble Beach event on Saturday drew an impressive audience of 1.91 million, while LIV Golf’s Mayakoba event fell short with only 168,000 viewers.

Remarkably, despite the PGA Tour’s rerun and the cancellation of the final round, Pebble Beach still managed to outshine LIV Golf. The average audience for the Mayakoba event’s final round was 48% higher compared to the previous year. Moreover, the debut of Masters champion Jon Rahm at LIV Golf generated excitement as he contended for the lead until a disappointing finish with consecutive bogeys.

As LIV Golf enters its third season, the event is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, coinciding with the buildup to the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, the PGA Tour will host the WM Phoenix Open, just 300 miles away from the LIV Golf event, introducing a competitive element between the two tours.
