The Women’s Tennis team of the University of Washington encountered a difficult defeat against the 15th-ranked California on the concluding day of the ITA National Team Indoors Championships. The team displayed great perseverance, with three singles matches extending into three sets, but unfortunately, they were unable to secure the victory.
During the doubles matches, Melissa Sakar and Dariya Detkovskaya obtained their first triumph of the weekend by defeating the Cal pair of Folch and Schomburg. Conversely, the No. 1 doubles pair, Alexia Jacobs and Astrid Olsen, faced their second top-20 doubles pair in two days and were defeated by Mushika/Viller Moeller.
Despite the challenging doubles matches, Astrid Olsen managed to secure the solitary win for the Huskies in the singles, by defeating the 51st-ranked Ivanov. Nonetheless, the team faced tough competition, as four of Cal’s singles players were ranked in the top 100.
Looking ahead, the team will take a break next weekend before returning to the court to compete against Seattle University on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
