The men’s basketball team at NHTI has been performing exceptionally well as of late. Following a remarkable victory against Vermont State University-Randolph, they have secured the top seed in the upcoming Yankee Small College Conference Championship Tournament. This victory holds particular significance as Vermont State was the only team in the conference to have previously defeated the Lynx.
Notably, the Lynx have made significant strides in their defensive game, evidenced by their ability to limit opponents to less than 86 points since their loss to Vermont State. In their recent game against the Knights, Terrian Wester delivered a stellar performance with 24 points and 24 rebounds, while both point guard Joe Cantey and Rahsheen Caulk Jr. made substantial contributions to the team’s success.
Following a perfect week with four wins, NHTI has now established the longest active winning streak in the country, having emerged victorious in their last seven games. Despite their success, the team remains concentrated on their upcoming matches prior to the playoffs, recognizing the impact of last season’s upset in the opening round by Paul Smith’s College.
NHTI proudly lays claim to the highest-scoring offense in the nation for USCAA Division-2 schools, with an average of 91.9 points per game. Coach Irv Harris was honoured as the YSCC conference coach of the year last season, further adding to the team’s accolades. However, their forthcoming match against Great Bay Community College, who possess the second-highest-scoring offense, presents a formidable challenge.
As the regular season draws to a close, NHTI remains resolute in their effort to maintain their momentum heading into the playoffs. With their sights set on the championship title, the Lynx are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of success. Their final regular-season game against Five Towns College will serve as a crucial test of their preparedness for the playoffs.
