The academic year of 2023-24 holds great significance for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s women’s basketball program, as it commemorates its 50th season. In this retrospective, we will journey through the past to highlight pivotal moments in the history of the Mocs.
From February 11th to 17th, the Mocs, previously known as the Mocettes and Lady Mocs, achieved an impressive record of 70-34 in all games played during this period. Notably, they secured a commendable 49-19 standing against the Southern Conference, claiming victories over notable opponents such as the College of Charleston and Samford, while maintaining an unblemished 4-0 record against the College of Charleston.
A monumental moment in the team’s history occurred in 1984, when the Mocs secured a triumph against #17 Clemson, propelling them to their first-ever AP Top 20 ranking. Despite trailing at halftime, the Mocs displayed remarkable resilience, ultimately clinching the win with a stellar performance at the free-throw line.
Moreover, the Mocs have attained several significant records, including setting a scoring record in one of their three 100-point games. Notably, in 1980, the team scored a remarkable 116 points against Alabama-Huntsville, further solidifying their prowess on the court.
Additionally, individual players have achieved noteworthy milestones, with Jasmine Joyner reaching her 900th career rebound, cementing her status as one of the top players in UTC’s history.
In contemplation of the team’s performance at the McKenzie Arena, a remarkable achievement stands out – the Mocs set an arena record for field goal percentage, underscoring their exceptional talent and skill on the court.
