Greenfield Girls Basketball Team Delivers Strong Performance in 64-60 Loss to Hoosac Valley

The Greenfield girls basketball team put up a strong fight in a tightly contested game against Hoosac Valley, but ultimately fell short in a 64-60 defeat. The Green Wave had been leading with just over five minutes to go, but unfortunately star player Amber Bergeron had to leave the game due to an injury. This allowed Hoosac to make a come-from-behind victory with an 18-3 run to end the game.

Even in the face of this defeat, Greenfield coach Ben Johnson praised his team’s tenacity and effort, pointing out how hard they played against one of the top teams in Western Massachusetts. He commended their resilience and determination, expressing confidence in their abilities for the upcoming Western Mass. and state tournaments.

The game had started off well for Greenfield, with the team leading for much of the match. However, Amber Bergeron’s injury left the Green Wave needing to rely on other players to step up offensively. Despite the setback, the Green Wave players rose to the challenge, with Amber Bergeron and Gloria McDonald each contributing 16 points, Tayler Bergeron scoring 14 points, Carly Blanchard with nine points, and Anna Bucala with seven points.

Unfortunately, the team was unable to maintain their lead as Hoosac’s Emma Meczywor and Ashlyn Lesure led a late surge, resulting in a narrow victory for Hoosac Valley. Despite the loss, the Greenfield team’s performance showed their progress both offensively and defensively, with Coach Johnson expressing confidence in the team’s growth and potential.

In a separate game, the top-seeded Four Rivers team secured a decisive victory over Berkshire Arts & Technology, advancing to the championship game against No. 2 Eagle Hill. This upcoming title match promises to be an exciting and closely-fought contest, as the Otters seek to claim the RVAL title.

As players and teams continue to push their limits and demonstrate their talent on the court, anticipation builds for the thrilling matchups and exciting games that lie ahead in the world of high school basketball.
