Ras al Khaimah, an emirate situated in the United Arab Emirates, offers a unique experience for both golf enthusiasts and adventure seekers. When I attended the DP World Tour tournament at the Al Hamra Golf Club, I was able to explore the various attractions this emirate has to offer beyond its prestigious golf course.
Upon my arrival in Ras Al Khaimah, I was immediately struck by the peaceful ambience that sets it apart from its neighbouring emirates. Instead of towering skyscrapers, the cityscape is dominated by more modest buildings, with the exception of the opulent Waldorf Astoria, a five-star luxury hotel that exudes Arabian palace grandeur. The hotel, which recently underwent a comprehensive renovation, offers stunning views of the sea and the championship golf course.
During the tournament, I had the opportunity to witness renowned golf professionals compete, with Danish golfer Thorbjørn Olesen emerging as the victor. It was thrilling to watch the tournament up close and to see the German participants showcase their exceptional skills on the green.
After the tournament, I had the chance to experience the Al Hamra Golf Club for myself, navigating the 18-hole course designed by golf course architect Peter Harradine. The course, lauded for its impeccable maintenance and scenic beauty, offers a challenge for golfers of all skill levels, with five different tee options available. And even though the desert landscape surrounds the course, the development and design are discreet, ensuring an uninterrupted golfing experience.
Beyond the golf course, Ras Al Khaimah also boasts a range of adrenaline-pumping activities. Visitors can partake in the Jais Flight zipline in the Hajar Mountains, which holds the title for the longest zipline in the world. Additionally, trekking tours and survival training courses in the rugged mountain terrain offer an opportunity to immerse oneself in nature.
For those interested in cultural experiences, a visit to the Suwaidi Pearls Farm provides insight into the art of pearl diving and cultivation, accompanied by the chance to witness a striking display of flamingos in their natural habitat.
During my stay in Ras Al Khaimah, I was captivated by the tranquillity of the emirate and the unexpected array of experiences it offers. While there’s a construction boom in progress, there’s a unique opportunity to visit before it becomes a bustling tourist hub. With plans to expand the hospitality sector in the coming years, now is the perfect time to explore the hidden gems of Ras Al Khaimah.
In conclusion, Ras Al Khaimah is not just a golfing destination; it’s a treasure trove of diverse experiences that cater to all preferences, from serene beachfront relaxation to heart-pounding adventures in the mountains. As this emirate continues to evolve, it’s poised to become a must-visit destination for travelers seeking a blend of luxury, adventure, and cultural immersion.
