BU Terriers Secure Victory Over Navy Thanks to Dominant Performances from Landrum and Alexander

The Boston University men’s basketball team achieved a resounding victory over Navy, securing a final score of 74-65 in an electrifying match at Case Gym. Following a previous defeat against Navy, the Terriers delivered a remarkable performance to claim a well-deserved win.

Navy entered the game with an impressive track record, leading the conference in steals and turnover margin. Nevertheless, the Terriers were determined to shift the momentum in their favour. The Midshipmen relied on the exceptional abilities of their sophomore players, Donovan Draper and Austin Benigni, who play a pivotal role in the Patriot League.

BU head coach Joe Jones acknowledged Benigni’s remarkable talent, stating, “When he gets momentum, he’s almost impossible to stop.” Despite the high praise for the opposing team’s players, the Terriers were resolute in their determination to secure a victory on their home court.

The return of senior wing Anthony Morales further bolstered the Terriers’ lineup, injecting much-needed energy into the team and boosting morale. Morales’ presence on the court following a previous absence provided a significant lift to the team.

Sophomore forward Otto Landrum made an immediate impact by showcasing his offensive prowess, scoring BU’s first eight points and exploiting gaps in the Navy defense. Despite his strong start, Landrum modestly attributed his impressive 19-point performance to a recent change in his pre-game routine, emphasizing the impact of personal preparation on athletic success.

As the game progressed, both teams displayed their competitive spirit, with BU seizing the lead at the end of the first half with a score of 36-28. The second half witnessed a display of skill and determination from both sides, highlighting the intense rivalry between the Terriers and the Midshipmen.

Kyrone Alexander, a freshman guard for the Terriers, exhibited his versatility by contributing 19 points to the team’s overall score, matching his career high. His all-around proficiency on the court proved invaluable to BU’s success, demonstrating his ability to adapt and excel under pressure.

In a pivotal moment of the game, Alexander’s exceptional play extended BU’s lead, ultimately securing a crucial victory. Despite Navy’s persistent efforts to narrow the point difference, the Terriers maintained their composure and executed strategic plays to stay ahead.

Following the thrilling win, Coach Jones stressed the need for continual improvement, particularly in defensive rebounding, as the team prepares for their upcoming game against American. His dedication to refining the team’s performance underscores the relentless pursuit of excellence within the BU men’s basketball program.

The Terriers’ triumph over Navy serves as a testament to their unwavering dedication and skill on the basketball court, setting the stage for an exciting and promising season ahead.
