Marshfield Girls Hockey Makes a Strong Push for Playoffs

The Marshfield High girls’ hockey team has demonstrated exceptional form as they enter the Division 2 state tournament with a commendable 12-8 record. Coaches are elated to witness their team reaching the pinnacle of their abilities at the opportune moment, particularly after the Rams reversed last year’s performance and secured a spot in the state tournament for the first time in recent memory.

Following a challenging 1-0 defeat to Milton, the Rams concluded the regular season with their most impressive record in a decade, triumphing in eight of their last nine games. This impressive winning streak has positioned them favorably for the impending playoffs.

Despite the absence of prior postseason experience, the Marshfield team remains undaunted. Having competed against some of the top teams in the state, they exude confidence in their capabilities and display fearlessness towards the competition.

Head coach Tom Greland attributes the team’s triumph to their unwavering dedication and consistent effort. He highlights the exceptional performance of goalkeeper Morgan Murphy, who has emerged as a standout player boasting an impressive goals-against average.

The Marshfield girls’ team features a youthful lineup, with only three seniors this season. Forward Sinead Doyle and co-captains Addison Browne and Arianna Altobello have played pivotal roles in leading the team to success.

Coach Greland also commends the team’s well-rounded scoring abilities and resolute defensive play, underscoring the collaborative endeavor and relentless determination that have contributed to their accomplishments.

Despite not possessing finesse as a team, the Rams have unequivocally displayed their ability to compete with top-tier opponents, often maintaining tied games until late stages and enduring narrow defeats to formidable teams.

Looking to the future, Coach Greland remains sanguine about the impact of their demanding schedule on the team’s progression and the community’s fervor for the program. He harbors hope that their success will serve as an inspiration for future generations of players to join the team.

As the young Rams prepare for the playoffs, they exude both confidence and determination to leave an indelible impression in the state tournament.
