Celebrating Outstanding Achievements in CUNYAC Women’s Basketball

The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) has recently unveiled the recipients of the weekly awards for women’s basketball. Those honored for their exceptional performance in the sport are Mia Castillo from Baruch, Michaela Lattimore from John Jay, and Alexa Charles from Hunter.

Mia Castillo, a junior from Pleasant Valley, N.Y., has earned the distinction of CUNYAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. She delivered an outstanding performance, averaging 29.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 7.0 steals, and 4.0 blocks per game. Her remarkable contribution significantly impacted her team’s success, showcasing her exceptional skills on the court.

The title of CUNYAC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week was bestowed upon Michaela Lattimore, a freshman from Morristown, N.J. She exhibited an impressive performance, averaging 9.3 points and 8.7 rebounds in a 3-0 week for the Bloodhounds, generating double-doubles in two of the three contests.

Furthermore, Alexa Charles, a sophomore from Tarrytown, N.Y., received an Honorable Mention for the CUNYAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. She displayed exceptional skill and sportsmanship, averaging 25.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 6.5 steals, and 4.5 assists. Her outstanding performance significantly contributed to her team’s successes.

The 2024 CUNYAC Women’s Basketball Championship is scheduled to take place from February 17th to 23rd. The competition will commence with First Round action on Saturday, February 17th, at the higher seeds. The semifinal round will occur on Tuesday, February 20th, also at higher seeds. Lastly, the tournament finale will be held on Friday, February 23rd at CCNY.

The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) is an NCAA Division III and NJCAA Division III conference comprising 14 members spread across all five boroughs of New York City. Since its establishment in 1987, the conference has prioritized initiatives that focus on the student-athlete. The conference sponsors various championships, awards dinners, leadership seminars, and intramurals championship series.
