Get Ready for the Athens-area High School Basketball State Playoffs

The basketball playoffs have commenced for high schools in the Athens area, marking an exciting period where teams have the opportunity to distinguish themselves in pursuit of championship glory. Numerous programs from the region have qualified for the playoffs, with many securing favourable seeds in their respective brackets.

One notable accomplishment is the boys team from North Oconee, which secured its first-ever region championship, earning the top one-seed. The girls team from North Oconee achieved a two-seed. Other schools such as Oglethorpe County, Athens Christian, Prince Avenue Christian, Athens Academy, and Monsignor Donovan also earned their spots in the playoffs.

The first-round matchups are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, with the GHSA championships set for March 6-9 at the Macon Centreplex, and the GIAA championships scheduled for March 1-2 at Columbus State. Complete brackets for both boys and girls can be viewed at GHSA.com.

Exciting upcoming matchups in the girls brackets include Jefferson facing Tri-Cities in the GHSA Class AAAAA category, and North Oconee taking on Pace Academy in the Class AAAA division.
