The Florida A&M women’s basketball team suffered a challenging defeat at the hands of the Alcorn State Braves, with a final score of 64-49, during their game on Monday. Despite their best efforts, the Rattlers were unable to secure a victory on the road.
Throughout the game, the Rattlers exhibited resilience and determination, with two players scoring in double figures. Ahriahna Grizzle led the team with 17 points and three steals, followed by Peryonna Sylvester with 10 points and Jaliya Sharp with eight points. The FAMU defense also displayed a strong performance, forcing 14 Alcorn State turnovers and converting them into 10 points.
However, the Rattlers encountered a challenging start, falling behind 18-12 at the end of the first quarter. As the game progressed, they struggled to regain momentum and were met with a halftime deficit of 34-18. Despite their efforts to narrow the gap, Alcorn State maintained their lead, ultimately securing a 64-49 victory.
In a parallel match, the FAMU men’s basketball team also experienced a tough defeat against Alcorn State, marking their sixth consecutive loss with a final score of 79-68. Forward Shannon Grant delivered a commendable performance, leading the Rattlers with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Looking ahead, the Rattlers will have the opportunity to regroup as they host Alabama State in an upcoming Southwestern Athletic Conference doubleheader at the Al Lawson Center. The women’s team will take the court at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s team at 4 p.m.
