Scott Jamieson’s Impressive Start in Qatar Masters

Scott Jamieson got off to a blazing start in the Qatar Masters as he aims to secure his DP World Tour card for next season. The 39-year-old Scot shot an impressive seven-under-par 65 in the opening round, putting him in a tie for the lead with New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier. However, play was interrupted by a sandstorm and lightning. Jamieson is currently ranked 119th in the Race to Dubai standings, with the top 116 players retaining full privileges for 2024. Other Scottish players, including Robert MacIntyre, Ewen Ferguson, and Stephen Gallacher, also had strong starts in the tournament, reaching six under. Jamieson’s close friend, Marc Warren, who is 117th in the standings, opened with a solid two-under 70. Jamieson and Warren will need to finish in the top 116 to avoid a trip to qualifying school. Despite the pressure, Jamieson remains optimistic and focused on his game. He made seven birdies and no bogeys in the calm early conditions at Doha Golf Club. Jamieson’s consistent performance over the years has allowed him to hold onto his tour card for 13 consecutive seasons. However, he knows that he needs to give it his all to secure his spot for next season. The tournament also saw strong starts from Andy Sullivan of England and Spain’s Pablo Larrazabal, who both shot five-under rounds of 67. Ross Fisher, currently ranked 115th in the Race to Dubai, carded a two-under 70 in his opening round. Play was briefly resumed after the sandstorm but was halted again due to lightning. The Qatar Masters promises to be an exciting and challenging event for all the players involved.
