Over the weekend, the UConn men’s hockey team encountered a formidable opponent in the form of the second-ranked Boston University. Regrettably, despite their utmost efforts, UConn found themselves on the losing end of both games in their home-and-home series against BU.
In the initial encounter on Friday, the Huskies faced a challenging start as Boston University swiftly gained a 2-0 lead in the opening period. Despite making several offensive attempts, UConn faltered to find the back of the net, with BU goaltender Mathieu Caron thwarting their efforts. Although the Huskies managed to reduce the deficit to one in the subsequent period, BU seized the initiative by scoring two power-play goals, ultimately securing a commanding 4-1 lead. The game culminated in a resounding 6-1 triumph for Boston University.
Subsequently, in the second game on Saturday, UConn demonstrated considerable determination, yet found themselves once more trailing as Boston University notched a late goal in the first period. Despite UConn’s perseverance, BU furthered their advantage in the following period, ultimately sealing a 6-0 victory, thus completing a comprehensive weekend sweep over their opponents.
Consequently, UConn’s overall record has subsequently regressed to 12-17-2, with their conference play record standing at 7-13-1. Looking ahead, the team’s upcoming challenge will be a home-and-home series against Northeastern University, commencing in Boston, Massachusetts.
