The Promising Future of Carver Basketball: An Interview with Reginald Sprouse

Carver Basketball came close to reaching the Class 6A state championship game, ultimately losing to Mountain Brook in the semifinals. Despite this setback, the team is optimistic as they look towards the future.

In the upcoming season, Carver will move up to Class 7A after merging with Sidney Lanier. Head coach Reginald Sprouse is positive about the potential of this new partnership, highlighting the existing camaraderie between players from both schools.

Sprouse conveyed his enthusiasm, stating, “Many of the students at Lanier are already friends with the players here at Carver. So, merging together next season will not be a challenge. It will be beneficial for me as a coach because I will have exceptional talent moving up to 7A. The Lanier students this year were talented, reaching the Sweet Sixteen. They also defeated us in the area championship this year, so the outlook for Carver basketball next year is promising.”

During their recent game, freshman J’Harvay Deramus had a significant impact, scoring two critical 3-pointers as a substitute. Coach Sprouse sees immense potential in Deramus, describing him as a dedicated and skilled player who represents the future of Carver basketball.

Additionally, senior players Conor McPherson and Zander Frazier made valuable contributions to the team, totaling 21 points in their final game for Carver. Both players are hopeful about the team’s prospects and believe that with hard work, Carver can make another successful return to Birmingham.

Looking forward, the future of Carver Basketball appears bright, with the team positioned for success in the upcoming merger and the promising abilities of emerging players like J’Harvay Deramus.
