The men’s tennis team at Ithaca College is eagerly anticipating the commencement of a promising new season. Following a challenging 2023 season, during which the Bombers encountered difficulties with a 1–7 conference record and a 6–10 regular record, the team is looking forward to a fresh start with the appointment of a new head coach.
Tom Rischoff, the newly appointed head coach, has joined the team following a successful tenure as the assistant coach for the Middlebury College women’s tennis team. With the objective of securing victory in the Liberty League, Rischoff maintains an optimistic view of the talent and potential of the team at Ithaca College.
The forthcoming season is not devoid of challenges, as the team is poised to compete against formidable adversaries such as the reigning Liberty League champions, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers, as well as Skidmore College, Vassar College, and Hobart College. Nevertheless, Rischoff’s leadership has been well received by the players, including first-year student Gijs Fidler, who eagerly anticipates the strategies and initiatives that the new coach has in store for the team.
The team’s 11-person roster comprises returning sophomores, juniors, seniors, and a graduate student. Notable players, including senior Nicolas Luis and first-year students Emiliano Pedrero and Fidler, are expected to deliver commendable performances in the upcoming season.
The captains for this season encompass graduate student Max Sobel and seniors Jacob Wachs, Eric Dubilirer, and Nicolas Luis. With a blend of seasoned and emerging talent, the team is diligently preparing for the season, with a particular focus on enhancing stamina and maintaining peak physical condition.
Sophomore Carlos Hernandez, who exhibited an impressive performance in the previous season, is resolute in his determination to enhance the team’s results and strive for victory in closely contested matches. Similarly, the highly motivated student-athletes on the team, including Pedrero and Fidler, are eager to bring their energy and determination to the court.
Having secured an initial victory over Drew University and a subsequent loss to the University of Rochester, the Bombers are intensively preparing to confront the St. Lawrence University Saints in their upcoming match. The team is steadfast in its commitment to seizing the opportunity to showcase their hard work and determination on the court.
As the season unfolds, the men’s tennis team at Ithaca College is dedicated to giving their utmost effort and highlighting their talent, energy, and unwavering commitment to attaining success in the sport.
