“Thrilling Overtime Victory Secures State Hockey Title for Glasgow”

Glasgow emerged victorious in a thrilling championship game against Miles City in the Big Sky High School League state hockey tournament, securing a 5-4 overtime win at Centennial Ice Arena on Sunday to claim the title.

The game was a rollercoaster of emotions, with Glasgow’s Bode Barnett impressively scoring three goals, and Mason Hunter delivering the game-winning goal in overtime on a power play. Zevin Kummerfeldt also contributed a goal for Glasgow, as the team held a 4-1 lead going into the third period. However, the Generals staged a remarkable comeback, tying the game at 4-4 with three goals in the third period, ultimately sending the game into overtime.

Miles City’s Christopher Lang stood out with two crucial goals in the third period, while Anthony Moorehead also made a significant contribution. Kameron Lockie had previously scored for Miles City in the first period. Brody Hansen and Peyton Smith provided assists for Glasgow, with Mason Chapmon delivering four assists for Miles City, supported by Yanzie Looman.

In a display of skill and tenacity, Jacob Potter excelled as the winning goalie for Glasgow, facing 24 shots and making 20 saves. On the opposing end, Kenneth Kuchynka served as the goalie for Miles City, facing 40 shots and achieving 35 saves.

In the third-place game, Great Falls emerged victorious in a shootout over Bozeman, with Ryder Carper scoring two goals, including the game-winner, for the Americans. The thrilling match also saw Dalton Courcy in top form as the Great Falls goalie.

The tournament, which featured an eight-team field, commenced on Thursday at Centennial. Notably, the Big Sky league represents the lower division for younger players and smaller communities in Montana, with the upper division being the Treasure State League Montana High School League. The upper division’s state championships are scheduled to take place in Havre from March 8-10.

The state hockey tournament showcased the incredible talent and sportsmanship of high school players from across Montana, demonstrating the passion and dedication that these young athletes bring to the ice.
