The 25th ranked women’s tennis team from the University of Washington is set to enter Pac-12 competition this weekend as they travel to Los Angeles to compete against USC and UCLA.
The Huskies will kick off the weekend with a match against USC on Friday, March 8, followed by a face-off against UCLA on Saturday, March 9. Both of these teams are strong contenders, with USC ranked 11th and UCLA ranked 19th.
In the previous season, the Huskies achieved victories against both USC and UCLA in conference play, marking the second time in UW program history that they accomplished this feat. The team has a historic rivalry with these Southern California schools, and their impressive performance last season was a testament to their skill and determination.
The Huskies are entering this weekend’s matches with one singles player and one doubles duo currently ranked. Alexia Jacobs has moved up 11 spots to No. 67, following her recent victories, and is accompanied by Astrid Olsen at 55th in the doubles rankings.
During their previous encounter with USC at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, the Huskies suffered a narrow defeat of 4-3. However, the team managed to secure two ranked singles wins, with Erika Matsuda and Jacobs emerging victorious in their respective matches.
USC has a strong lineup, with several of their players currently holding notable ranks in the singles and doubles categories. The Trojans’ strength and skill make them a worthy adversary for the Huskies.
On the other hand, the Huskies will also be facing the 19th ranked Bruins from UCLA, who have three singles players and a doubles pair prominently placed in the rankings. UCLA has already proven their abilities this season with victories against top-10 teams, demonstrating their capability to deliver impressive performances against tough opponents.
