Penn Women’s Basketball Finishes Regular Season with Loss to Princeton

The University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team completed their regular season with a challenging loss to Princeton, falling 72-55 at Jadwin Gymnasium. Despite making significant attempts to close the gap and overtake the Tigers, the Quakers were unable to secure the victory.

Concluding the regular season with an overall record of 15-12, 7-7 in Ivy League play, the team now looks ahead to next week’s Ivy League Tournament in New York City. Meanwhile, the Tigers concluded the season with an impressive record of 22-4, going 12-1 in conference play, which earned them a share of the Ivy League regular-season title.

Penn’s three-game winning streak came to an end after the defeat, marking their first loss since February 17 at Brown. Jordan Obi led the team with 17 points, along with six rebounds and six assists in 33 minutes, while Stina Almqvist added 16 points to the scoreboard.

Throughout the game, the Quakers managed to secure a 38.8 percent shooting average from the field and a 36.4 percent average from beyond-the-arc, with a free-throw percentage of 92.9 percent. Despite never taking the lead, Penn managed to come within two points of the Tigers on two occasions, resulting in an intense matchup.

Princeton started the game strong, taking an early lead with a 5-0 run. While the Quakers succeeded in narrowing the deficit at various points, the Tigers continued to extend their advantage, finishing the first quarter with a 22-12 lead.

Penn faced challenges finding their offensive rhythm in the second quarter but managed to close in on Princeton’s lead, trailing by just four points at one stage. The game remained closely contested throughout the third quarter, with the Quakers displaying resilience as they fought to narrow the score gap.

However, a strong performance from Princeton in the final quarter extended their lead to 21 points, ultimately resulting in their 72-55 victory. Consequently, the Quakers will now prepare to face either Princeton or Columbia next Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in the semifinals of Ivy Madness at Levien Gymnasium in New York City.
