India’s Hockey Squad: 28 Players Gear Up for National Men’s Coaching Camp

Hockey India has recently unveiled the roster for the national men’s coaching camp, and it comes as no surprise that they have opted for the tried and tested method. A total of 28 core probables have been chosen to participate in the coaching camp, which is scheduled to occur from March 12 to March 30 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

This camp bears significant weight as it will serve as a pivotal platform for the Indian team to fine-tune their skills and tactics in preparation for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics. With the goal of gearing up for the ultimate sporting event, these selected players will have the opportunity to sharpen their abilities and strategize alongside esteemed coaches.

The team is returning to the camp after delivering an impressive performance in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023-24. Currently holding third place, the team has amassed 15 points from eight matches across Bhubaneswar and Rourkela legs. The league is slated to resume on May 22 in Antwerp, Belgium, followed by matches in London and the Netherlands.

The line-up for the core group of the camp encompasses a diverse set of talented individuals covering various positions. This includes goalkeepers Krishan Bahadur Pathak, PR Sreejesh, and Suraj Karkera, as well as a formidable array of defenders, midfielders, and forwards. Among the chosen players are seasoned veterans and emerging young talents who have demonstrated their abilities in recent tournaments.

Craig Fulton, chief coach of the Indian men’s hockey team, has emphasized the significance of the forthcoming coaching camp, underscoring the team’s necessity to be in optimal condition for their upcoming Test matches in Australia. He also stressed the importance of integrating a blend of experienced players and youngsters who have showcased their skills in the Pro League.

Fulton expressed, “The Pro League mini-tournament in Odisha proved to be an excellent testing ground, but there is always room for improvement, and we will look to set things straight well before the final leg of the Pro League and the Paris 2024 Olympics.”
